Parkside, Wimbledon. London
Client: Mr and Mrs N.
Completion date: Not completed.
This ancillary building for a large house on Parkside has a interesting program and design brief.
Situated at the end of the garden the design brief was for a soundproof music studio, a guesthouse and a to have an ‘architectural gem’ to give extra amenity to the garden.
This charred cedar-clad design integrates a small courtyard and pond into the building program, with the other functions snacking vertically behind the main space. With the entire garden room facade opening up onto the courtyard we hope to blur the boundary between the interior and the garden.
This was an unapologetic modern building within the conservation area of Parkside in Wimbledon and was the subject of two planning applications into Merton council, both of which were approved on the first time of application. The project was tendered in February 2013 and had an estimated contract value of £250K.
